But it means something larger too. It’s part of the growing idea that each and every one of us can be challenged at any moment, and can have our very citizenship challenged at any moment, and God help you if your papers aren’t in order … and even if they are, each person’s status is, increasingly, at the arbitrary will of the state (and the powers behind the state)…
I think that is why it is important to join in the Human race and why civil rights are universal values.
