Global Politics > Warming Up

Israeli forces have attacked aid ships attempting to break the blockade of Gaza. Commandos lowered themselves from helicopters and onto the Mavi Marmara - the lead ship in a flotilla of six vessels which are carrying humanitarian aid for the Palestinian territory

What we are seeing from both the US and Israel is spiraling impunity. They seem to see themselves as gods, above any considerations of morality, beyond reproach, beyond compassion.
I found the wording here interesting too - attempting to “break the blockade” - sure makes those peaceful activists sound violent, doesn’t it? We wouldn’t want to judge anything here. We’d want to indulge in a bit of sophistry. Carefully chosen words. Split the difference. Mustn’t be too passionate. No angry words. What did those people trying to break stuff expect, after all?!!
It’s time for me to stop commenting here, as we are not on the same page at all. My best wishes to you, Thomas. Your work is important and will thrive.
Ok, I’m actually going to say one more thing to make my meaning clear. There has never been a worse time for technocratic pretentions of objectivity, especially when they are not objective (as they never are), or for ethical temporizing.
This was a bloody slaughter, a bloody slaughter with global implications for the relationship between each of us and our goverment, for the utter bloody impunity of government.
Again, I wish you the best. We’ll not discuss politics again.
